In the last few days, some remarkable events have taken place at the international level. But unfortunately it was not recorded as it should have been. These events are very important from India's point of view. We need to understand the things behind these events that brighten the image of India. The most important event is the 'I2U2' Meeting. This meeting or the group as a whole has become globally known as a group that starts a new chapter. I2U2 means India, Israel ( 2I) United States of America, United Arab Emirates ( 2U). These four countries have come together on the occasion of this group. Along with this, 4 religions of the world have come together. India (Hindu), Israel (Jew), America (Christian), U. A. E. (Arab-Muslim). All these four countries represent four different religions. That is why this group has gained a different importance. This group has been established to work together on the issues of water, energy, communication, space, food and health.
Although the main objective of I2U2 is on paper, many things and tricks are played behind the scenes. America has always intervened in the international arena. The conflict between Israel and Arab nations is nothing new to the world. America, which has been with Israel for a few decades in giving it the status of a nation and protecting it from Muslim nations, is now trying to establish reconciliation relations between Israel and the Arab nations. America needed such a nation to change the image of Israel in the minds of the Arab nations. A country that has good relations with Arab and Muslim nations and at the same time aligns with the principles of America and Israel. This is a philosophical piece but it will be useful to trade with. There was only one such country that was 'India'.
India has very close relations with Arab countries. Be it Saudi Arabia or UAE. India has created a distinct position in its relations with these countries. Along with this, Israel and America are very close allies of India. Apart from this, India is very strong both as a market and as an exporting country. For this reason, this group was established to coordinate in the Gulf countries. Which is called West Asian Quad. There is a Quad to deter China in the Indo-Pacific region, and now India's inclusion in the formation of a Quad-like group in the Gulf represents a change in the winds in many ways.
Just a few days ago, the US House of Representatives has unanimously approved the resolution to exclude India from the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) while amending the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It was unanimously approved by the Democratic & Republican Party members. If any of America's allies buys defense equipment from America's enemies like Russia, Iran, North Korea, America has the right to place that country in the ranks of the enemy countries. The law therefore gives the right to completely curb relations with that country on any form of aid given by the United States. Just a few months ago Turkey imposed the CATSA Act on Turkey as it acquired the S-400 system from Russia like India. Therefore, Turkey's has been shaken in a way. Note that Turkey is a member country of NATO countries. While the country is very close to the US, the US has imposed all restrictions on Turkey based on this law. As part of this, the US has expelled Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet project.
India is not a member of any group or campaign. India has been pursuing its foreign policy in a detached manner till date. Where India's national interest lies, the decision is taken and India is proceeding in such a manner. Although not close to the US, the US House of Representatives voted unanimously to exclude India from CATSA. Then it becomes clear how much India's influence has increased. Now this decision will go to the US Senate and it will be signed by the US President saying that India will be the first country to get such special treatment. Turkey is literally boiling over there. When we were a member of NATO, America unilaterally imposed sanctions on us without asking us, and on the other hand, India is being treated completely differently. Now one might say that America has an advantage in this and it really does. There is nothing to deny it. Because if the power hungry China is to be given to the dictator, it is the need of the hour to make India strong. But equally important are India's behind-the-scenes moves to bring about such a change in US law. We have to recognize that India's steps on the chessboard are very long when the opposing parties also throw their weight in India's favor at the same time.
While India is playing its tricks with America on the world stage, India has started a different game with Russia. India has stood firm with Russia when the world has ostracized Russia. India has been increasing its import of Russian crude oil from Russia every month. During the month of May India was buying 800,000 barrels of oil from Russia every day. The same figure has reached 10,00,000 barrels per day in the month of June. Russian oil now accounts for 25% of India's total crude oil requirement. Experts are saying that this number will increase further in the coming time. International oil prices are stable around $100/barrel as India buys oil from Russia. Otherwise they would have gone up to $110 to $115. India alone has provided 5 billion (500 crore) US dollars to Russia since the start of the war. which have been a lifeblood for Russia's economy.
India has now taken a step further and started preparing to do business with its allies in Indian rupees instead of US dollars. India has decided to pay in rupees if any transaction is to be done. What this means is that we are reducing our need for the US dollar. The more transactions we do in rupees, the more the demand for rupees will be and that will stop the depreciation of the rupee. An example is the 5 billion US dollars we paid to Russia as price of oil if we pay it in rupees, we will save 5 billion worth of US dollars. As transactions are denominated in rupees, the demand for rupees will increase. Overall our foreign exchange reserves will increase which is good for the economy of any country. Now, due to increased demand for dollar, rupee is depreciating against it. But to reverse this situation, India has taken these steps to deal with its allies.
On the whole, India is playing its own tricks on the international stage. India today is voicing what it thinks is right without any pressure. Although the economic and geographical conditions are partly responsible for this, the participation and leadership of the political leadership is important. India's position as both the vizier and the king on the chessboard simultaneously curbing their moves represents the shifting tides and winds of change. Only the coming time will give the answer as to what changes these winds bring about in world politics.
