Indian Saraswati... Vinit Vartak ©
The structure of the universe is so inconceivable that many things in the universe often leave us speechless. The universe is like a web woven by a spider. The threads of which are so intertwined that we often look at its structure and feel inferior to it. Starting with our earth, our earth is a part of our solar system. Our solar system includes all the planets, asteroids, and other objects that orbit the Sun. Our solar system is part of the Milky Way galaxy. Our galaxy and some neighboring galaxies form a small group called a cluster of galaxies. There are 54 galaxies in our group. A cluster of other such galaxies form a 'Virgo cluster'. Which has about 2000 galaxies. The Virgo cluster is about 10 million light years across. (This means that when the light from one end travels at a speed of 3 lakh kilometer per second, it will take 10 million i.e. (1 crore) light years to reach the other end.
Now reading this you must be thinking how big the universe is. But this is the beginning. So many such Virgo clusters come together to form a super cluster. Our galaxy and the Virgo cluster are part of the super cluster 'Laniakia'. Its extent is 500 million (50 crore) light years. According to our current estimate of how many Laniakia-like superclusters there are in the universe, this number is as high as 10 million (1 crore). All this is only in the universe that we can see. The scope of the web of this universe is so vast that we have yet to see many threads. But the reason to say all this is that in 2017 Indian scientists have discovered one such super super cluster. The same name is 'Saraswati Supercluster'.
Saraswati is considered as the goddess of wisdom in Hindu culture. Indian scientists have discovered a super cluster galaxy in the year 2017 using the same intelligence. As this super cluster was given the name Saraswati, people who knew nothing about astronomy started protesting. Why did they bring caste and religion there and name Saraswati? Such a discussion started. Leaving this matter aside, we must remember how important this discovery is and a matter of pride for Indians. This discovery has been made by the scientists of IUCAA (Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics) in Pune and Indian Institute of Science Education Research, Pune. The Saraswati Supercluster is one of the largest superclusters known to man so far. The Saraswati Super Cluster is 650 million (65 crore) light-years across. It is about 4 billion (400 crore) light years away from us. There are about 40 clusters in the Saraswati Super Cluster. (like our Virgo cluster). The mass of this super cluster is more than 20 million billion times that of our Sun. Its discovery is very important from a scientific point of view. Because this super cluster existed during the very period of the creation of the universe. The existence of such a super cluster on such a large scale was a very rare event. We are peering into the 400 crore year past of the universe. Therefore, it is very likely that such a super cluster will reveal how many elements in the universe were formed. It is used to prove whether Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity and many laws of physics hold true for the origin of the universe and its overall structure. Many more secrets are revealed to us from it.
We are an atom, a molecule of a microscopic thread in this spider's web of the universe. Even giant objects like the Saraswati Super Cluster are so vast that the universe can be called a place where two threads meet. The information we have about the formation of this universe and the universe as a whole is still very scant. The scope of this web in the universe is so huge that perhaps the light from it has not reached us yet. who are you What is your existence? We have not yet got the answer to such simple questions. In search of those answers, humans are trying their best to find the answer using the science available now. We should certainly be proud that Indian institutions and Indian scientists are contributing equally to human research. My heartiest salute to all the Indian scientists at IUCAA, Indian Institute of Science Education Research, Pune, who are working tirelessly in the search for the Saraswati Super Cluster. Good luck with his further research. As an Indian, we should certainly respect Indian researchers and scientists for their invaluable contribution in unraveling the mysteries of the universe.
Jai Hind!!!
