A journey of 3000 meters between -50 and 50 degrees Celsius... Vinit Vartak

A journey of 3000 meters between -50 and 50 degrees Celsius... Vinit Vartak

It is said that circumstances make the man. When the situation is unfavorable, you have to try your best to adapt to it. From that, our strong personality is formed. This is the story of 'Avinash Sable' of Mandwa village in Beed district of Maharashtra. The Kenyan contestants, who won three medals in the Steeplechaser category of the Commonwealth Games for 28 consecutive years since 1994, have been crushed by a soldier from a drought-stricken village in Maharashtra and a constable in the Indian Army. Avinash Sable's silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games is not important because he won it. So it is important that this type of he has broken the hegemony of the nation Kenya. Which in the last 28 years, no player from 56 countries has been able to do.

Avinash Sable's journey of 3000 meters starts from school. Avinash Sable was born on September 13, 1994 in an ordinary farmer's family. The school was 6 km away from his village. Lal Pari, which reached the villages of Maharashtra, did not reach his village. So obviously Avinash used to run 12 kilometers every day. But still there was nothing sewn in his mind at that time except the craze for running. The situation was untenable. He could see the hardships of his parents. He thought that somehow he could help them financially. After passing 12th, he applied to join the Indian Army. After clearing all the tests of the Indian Army, he was inducted into the 5th Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army. After joining the Indian Army, he was assigned to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world, to protect India's borders.

A simple boy from a drought-stricken village like Beed, who had never seen snow, had suddenly reached the most hostile part of nature in minus 50 degrees Celsius. After guarding India's borders in the Siachen Glacier for almost 2 years, he was assigned to the central desert of Rajasthan. Constable Avinash Sable, who was protecting the country in minus 50 degrees, was now guarding the Indian border in a desert with a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius. Avinash Sable became strong in body and mind due to serving the country in both adverse environment of nature. This is where he got the taste of running. Avinash Sable suffered an injury after participating in some competitions in the Indian Army. In 2016, he was appointed to Sikkim. Due to missed running practice and injury, his weight suddenly went beyond 76 kg. Everyone started calling him lazy. Avinash Sable was defiant that you can never run again in your life. Somewhere hurt by these things, Avinash decided to shut the mouth of all of them by his actions. A new journey started from there.

By 2017, he reduced his weight to 59 kg. Along with his strong neck, he once again made his body strong through practice. During a competition, the long jump coach of the Indian Army, Amrish Kumar, caught the eye of him. He advised him to run steeplechase. The same training started. After that, Avinash Sable did not look back. Of course, this journey was not easy. of the then national coach Nikolai Sensarov. He Injured once again while practicing under his guidance. Nikolai was a very strict coach. At first, Avinash feels a lot of stress but he realizes that Nikolai is taking his abilities to the next level. After this, he and Nikolai formed a close relationship. But destiny had something else in mind. Nikolai died suddenly. After that, Avinash's progress came to a halt. He once again started running under the guidance of Indian coach Amrish Kumar.

In 2019, he won a silver medal at the World Championships and broke his own national record twice in a row. In 2020, he clocked less than 61 minutes in the Delhi Half Marathon. Avinash Sable is the only Indian runner to run a marathon in less than 61 minutes. He was sent to the US to prepare for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. After training there for the last 4 months, Avinash Sable has hoisted the tricolor of India aloft while creating history in the Commonwealth Games. He missed the same gold medal by just 0.05 seconds. If there were a few more meters in the race, he would have won it for sure. Kenya's established supremacy has been broken by Marathi youth Avinash Sable. President of India, Prime Minister along with many other dignitaries have praised him for the same.

It would be no exaggeration to say that the tricolor has emerged on the sporting horizon in the last few years. Apart from the game of cricket, Indians have started paying attention to other sports. Of course, even though all the credit goes to the players, there is some credit of this goes to sports policy changed by the Indian government. Avinash Sable's running has got a different edge due to the training and coaching done in America for the last 4 months. Avinash Sable from a very simple farmer family has reached the sky today. But for him even today the command of the Indian Army and the defense of India is the most important duty. he says,

"If army asks I will go back. That is my duty. But till then I want to do this and make the army proud.”

Avinash Sable's journey of 3000 meters between -50 to 50 degrees Celsius is an inspiration to all Indians.According to Avinash this is the beginning. Now the target is the 2024 Olympics in Paris. I wish him all the best for his future journey. Every Indian and Marathi person is proud of you.

Jai Hind!!!
